How to get followers free on Instagram you ask?
You read about it, you hear amazing success stories, you are cross promoting with it, but how to make it work for you?
Hi, my name is Manuella, I am a Social Media Consultant and that’s a question I get asked all the time by small business owners.
Social networking nowadays is a must, if you want to succeed building up your business. Today I am going to solve this problem for you and give you:
5 tips on how to get Instagram followers and make a huge difference with it in your business
1 – Have the right mindset
First things first, you have to acknowledge that using Instagram for business is not the same as having a personal Instagram profile.
It’s not about creating a business account and posting when you feel like it, or when you have time.
You need to be very intentional in each and every step, because remember: your Instagram account is like
– a virtual shop, if you are selling physical goods or
– a virtual office if you sell services
Therefore, you have to treat it as such, with a professional mindset and attitude, according to your company’s policy.
With that in mind, the first step is to make sure that your target audience is indeed using Instagram.
For instance: a quick audit of the community around the strongest keywords (or popular hashtags) in your industry can help assess that.
And if you can find a few influencers with a large engaged following and an Instagram engagement, it’s also a good sign this platform can be a good fit for your business.
The choice of your profile picture, the text in your Instagram bio and your username, are the next steps and have to reflect your company’s values and mission.
2 – Ho to get Instagram followers by creating a strategy
With that professional mindset, the next step is to lay out your strategy for your Instagram.
When hearing strategy, a lot of people think of a very complex concept for which you would need a Powerpoint presentation and at least 3 cups of coffee, but it is actually very simple. The strategy is your goal and the actions you will take to achieve this goal.
The most common goals with Instagram are: to grow a community, increase traffic to a website and to make sales.
You can pick one of these and then get very specific according to your business and call to action.
3 – Choose the best content
Instagram content is king. You have to produce high quality and above all highly targeted content to catch the interest of your audience.
“What content should I post?”, you may ask. Well, your industry or your customers will tell you!
Here are the questions which you can ask yourself, and how to get followers on Instagram
What is performing well in online communities regarding your industry?
Are the Instagram influencers talking about a certain topic?
How can I identify the recurring questions of my audience?
What are their interests?
Use all that mixed with the information you want to share regarding your business to craft a monthly calendar. You can also use recurring topics, your own or popular ones, like #ThrowbackThursday. It’s a great way to post on Instagram and to join the conversation while showcasing your unique style and value. Always use relevant hashtags too.
Always keep in mind that social media is all about relationships first. You need to keep things valuable and authentic to nurture your relationship with your Instagram users before asking anything (like through Instagram ads for instance).
4 – Stay consistent
If the content is king, consistency is queen on Instagram!
Only huge brands can afford to post episodically, and even they take the time to have a roadmap with consistent times and days to posts their content during the year.
Posting regularly on Instagram stories and Instagram feed will make your business look professional and authentic.
My 2 best tips for you to stay consistent are:
1. Don’t try to overdo it. In the beginning, it’s all new and fun and you want to post 3 times a day, but after a while, you lose interest or time. The best is to start small and build up on that.
2. Add Instagram times in your daily calendar. 20 minutes in the morning, 20 minutes in the afternoon for example. Perfect to connect with your community and to stay inspired. Oh, and turn off the notifications to keep your sanity.
5 – Use the good tools
You will find a lot of tools out there to schedule, automate and grow your account.
You have to be careful not to fall for something that may hurt your Instagram ‘’health’’.
Indeed, the Instagram algorithm pays very close attention to keep the interactions human-based and the new updates will be more and more severe with all automated accounts.
I always advise to keep doing things by yourself for the first 1-2 months, which increases engagement. And then add a few tools to help get organized.
Some great schedulers are Later, Grum and Plann. They can help tremendously in gaining time and staying consistent.
Hopefully, these 5 steps will help to enhance your understanding of the complex matters of Instagram marketing and user generated content.
