If you are a digital nomad, it does not mean you are a millionaire. And for those who just want to start earning money with the power of telecommunications, it requires working from foreign countries, coffee shops, public libraries, co-working spaces, or recreational vehicles.
At least, this is one way how it should look like, if you want to call yourself an authentic digital nomad and use it as a job title.
Work and travel as a digital nomad
If you want to experiment how it is to live as a digital nomad, you should prepare (more psychically) to be location independent.
The digital nomad lifestyle sets you free from the rat race of a 9 to 5 job and by working online you get to travel the world.
Regardless, if you want to work remotely or have a passive income for the long term, you will have to use your ”credit cards”.
The cost of living abroad can be difficult if you are spending your money on things you want instead of the things you need. (I will get back to this idea later on).
While this sounds everything perfect, let’s look the reality in the eyes, and see actually that you need a specific budget if you want to discover new places on the map.
With that being said, there are a lot of places where you can travel cheap and also live cheap. These are great places to start with when you go on your entrepreneurial venture.
But we will talk now about those other places in the world, like Hong Kong, Paris, London, Singapore etc.
These cities are definitely worth a visit, but the question is how, if you are on a budget?
It is possible to ”live the dream” even though you don’t have actually a high income.
Start with these 3 mindset hacks
First of all, if you want to become a business owner, digital nomad, entrepreneur, you start with training your mind to think on a higher level.
Those people who are creative, bring innovation into the globalization, the smart and the motivated ones will always find a way to make the impossible possible.
And if necessary, without any money. If they don’t have some. They just use their skills that they have. And you should too.
The first mindset hack is (coming back from the previous idea) start buying only things you need instead of things you like.
This is such a value, especially if you try to build up your own full time business.
Let me give you an example. You made a shopping list with 5 items, you go to the store and buy 10. Why?
Because you see all those other offers, that you can’t resist and buy more than actually planned to.
Did you really needed that T-shirt ( when you already have 10 more at home) next to that chocolate bar, or was something that you just wanted to have?
The chocolate bar was still not necessary, but if it was on your list, I can understand. 🙂
You get my point right? Spending money on the things you don’t need, just to satisfy your ”cravings” won’t speed your entrepreneurial journey towards success.
Mindset Hack Number 2
Less is more. If it doesn’t fit into your bag, you don’t need it.
You know why simplicity makes people happy? It’s not just because they save more money, but they free themselves from having the frustration of choosing from 100 things just 1.
Being happy is more about the inner world, your feelings, your choices to stay happy regardless if you have a Ferrari or not in your garage.
Mindset Hack Number 3
Be humble and don’t be afraid to talk to people.
This is such a huge deal. I mean, so many people are just afraid of talking to strangers, or to start a conversation with them. And when they talk, usually they tend to talk mostly about themselves, be opinionated or judge others.
The ability of communication is the key towards your success. Understanding people, talking to them on the same level and not being afraid of asking them questions is what you should start practicing every day.
Ways to travel cheap to expensive cities
The reason why I started with the mindset and not talking about expensive cities is, to get you prepared of making better decisions when it comes to spending your limited money.
Everything could go out of your control sooner than you think, if you are not prepared with a strong mindset first.
By using these 3 mind hacks, you already will be able to travel cheap. Buying just the necessary things, like food and shelter is more than enough.
Choose just to buy things which fits into your travel backpack.
And don’t be shy to ask people if they could give you a ride somewhere or they could give you a discount to something.
If you ask nicely, they will give you the password for the Wifi for free, without buying something from their coffee shop.
You will be amazed how many people are friendly and would want to help you out.
Use specific apps to locate the best deals in town, and join the local digital nomad communities for inside information.
Always hang out where the locals are hanging out and avoid the crowded spaces designed for tourists.
Traveling cheap or better luxurious?
I get it. (Everybody) most of us dreams to be rich. To stay in luxury. But the reality is, that you will be getting bored from all that ”bling bling”.
It will become a habit and eventually something obvious and normal thing to have.
But how can you appreciate more life? How can you understand people better? How can you be grateful if you always have what you want? You can’t.
So, it’s okay to sometimes sleep in a tent, because you don’t have enough money for a hostel. And it is okay to sometimes have little food and water. It makes you appreciate more the feeling of what you want to build up for yourself. And who do you want to be as a human being.
If you travel to expensive cities, that does not mean to buy expensive things.
Leave a comment with the city you want to visit next and what kind of other cheap ways you know you can travel.
